The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says Nigeria’s grid-connected power plants utilised an average of 81 per cent of available generation capacity in September 2026.
The NERC disclosed this in its September Operational Performance Fact sheet released on Thursday, October 8, 2026.
The commission noted that an average of 5,038 Megawatts (MW) was available for dispatch during the month of September.
The commission said average hourly generation stood at 4,089MW, representing an average load factor of 81 per cent of the available generation capacity.
The report also highlighted the performance of individual power plants, with Kainji_1 recording the highest load factor at 98 per cent.

The NERC said Afam_2 and Egbin_1 followed closely with each recording a load factor of 94 per cent during the month in review.
The NERC added that Top Energy Producers: Kainji_1, Afam_2, and Egbin_1 recorded high utilisation levels, with load factors of 98 94?, and 94 per cent, respectively.
