The Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission has demoted Malam Musa Ahmed, Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, and Malam Adamu Shehu, a Senior Master, over gross misconduct involving unauthorized sale of school property.

The disciplinary action followed the approval of the Commission after a detailed investigation, according to a statement released Thursday by Malam Dahiru Adamu, the Commission’s Information Officer.

The two officers were found guilty of colluding to sell off several school items without the approval of the State Ministry of Education. Items sold included 32 scrapped student beds, nine jumbo aluminium pots, and roofing zinc.

Garba Bashe, the overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, disclosed that a four-member committee investigated the matter and confirmed the allegations against the duo.

As a result, the Commission approved their demotion by one grade level and ordered their redeployment to different schools as classroom teachers.

Additionally, the two officers have been mandated to refund N597,000, the estimated value of the sold items.

The former principal, Malam Musa Ahmed, has also been directed to pay N72,000 owed to the school’s casual workers.

The Commission affirmed its commitment to work with security agencies to ensure the recovery of the stolen items and uphold accountability in the education sector.
