PSC appoints new DIG, promotes other senior police officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of AIG Dankwara Adamu Mohammed as the new Deputy Inspector General of Police representing the North East geopolitical zone.

Mohammed succeeds DIG Sahabu Abubakar Yahaya, who recently retired from service.

Also approved was the promotion of CP Abibo Deinma Reuben to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

11 Deputy Commissioners of Police were also elevated to Commissioners of Police, while 13 Assistant Commissioners were promoted to Deputy Commissioners.

FG clarifies presidential clemency process, says no inmate released yet

The PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Ani stated that the commission further promoted 44 Chief Superintendents of Police to Assistant Commissioners and 412 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents. Several Deputy Superintendents were also advanced to the rank of Superintendent of Police.

The promotions were among the major highlights of the PSC’s 2nd Plenary Meeting held at the Solomon Arase Conference Hall in Abuja, chaired by the commission’s chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), alongside other commissioners and senior officials.

Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to rededicate themselves to professionalism and effective service delivery in the Nigeria Police Force.
