PSC, Police open portal for recruitment of 50,000 constables

The Police Service Commission (PSC), in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has announced the commencement of the recruitment of 50,000 police constables into the Force, following a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, the Commission said the recruitment portal will open on Monday, December 15, 2025, and will remain active until Sunday, January 25, 2026.

The exercise is part of federal efforts to strengthen community policing, bolster internal security and expand the manpower base of the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the PSC, applications are open to qualified Nigerians who meet the stipulated criteria.

Applicants for the General Duty cadre must possess a minimum of five credits—including English Language and Mathematics—in not more than two sittings in GCE, SSCE/NECO or their equivalent.

Candidates applying for the Specialists cadre must have at least four credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings, in addition to a minimum of three years’ experience and relevant Trade Test certifications.

Eligible applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. The age requirement is 18 to 25 years for the General Duty cadre and 18 to 28 years for Specialists. Candidates must also be medically, physically and psychologically fit.

Height requirements apply only to General Duty applicants, who must not be shorter than 1.67m for males and 1.64m for females.

The PSC stressed that the recruitment exercise will be transparent, credible and strictly merit-based.

It warned applicants to disregard anyone demanding payment, stating clearly that the application process is entirely free.

“All applications must be submitted online through the official recruitment portal,” the statement said, adding that detailed guidelines will be available on the portal and the official websites and social media platforms of both the PSC and the NPF once the portal becomes active on December 15.

The Commission urged qualified Nigerians who are eager to serve the nation to take advantage of the opportunity.
