Radio Nigeria’s Prime 101.5FM in Jimgbe, Kogi State, has gone off air after armed robbers raided the station in the early hours of Saturday, stealing critical broadcasting equipment worth millions of naira.
According to the station’s General Manager, Momoh-Jimoh Adeiza, the attackers operated for over three hours without interruption, tying up the security guard on duty and vandalising the facility.
“This is a major setback. We are completely off air because our vital equipment was carted away.
“We urge security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend the culprits,” he said.
Adeiza confirmed that he has informed the station’s zonal director and called on relevant authorities for urgent support to help restore operations.
The security guard on duty, Daniel Haruna, described the terrifying ordeal, stating that over 10 armed men stormed the premises around 1 a.m., wielding guns and cutlasses.
“They tied me to a tree and blindfolded me.
“I couldn’t scream or call for help.
“They stole copper components, 22 modules, armoured cables, generator batteries, and more,” he recounted.
In response, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, condemned the attack, assuring the public that the government would collaborate with security agencies to track down the perpetrators.
Fanwo pledged state support to the station and emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting all federal institutions in Kogi.
“This act of vandalism is unacceptable.
“We will ensure this does not become a recurring issue and are ready to assist the station during this challenging time,” he said.
