Ramadan: Show how N6bn was spent to feed Muslims, APC tells Kano gov

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to reveal how N6 billion set aside for the 2024 Ramadan feeding in the state was spent.

Yusuf had, on Friday, March 22, 2024, expressed displeasure over the quality of food at one of the Ramadan feeding centres in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.

The governor, who paid an unscheduled visit to the centre on Friday evening, said the result he met during the impromptu visit was disappointing and disheartening, despite the allocation of ample foodstuff and resources for each centre in the state.

He added that he had directed a comprehensive probe, “and I demand an immediate change in the conduct of the programme”.

Reacting to the development, the Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, said: “N6 billion is not a small amount; government should clearly spell out how and where they spent the money on Ramadan feedings.”

Governor to Tinubu: Reopen land borders to ease hardship

Speaking while unveiling the distribution of food items to APC members at Dawkin Kudu Local Government Area of the State on Saturday, March 23, Abbas added that the party decided to come to the rescue of their supporters and other residents of the state to alleviate their economic hardship.

He said: “The National Chairman of APC, Dr Umar Ganduje, the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, the Chairman of House Committee on Appropriation, Bichi, and a host of others, including myself and the Chief of Staff Mallam Muhammad Garba, donated our money and purchased the rice for onwards distribution to our members as palliative.

“We used our personal money not donations from Dangote, BUA, and the Federal Government to help our people but a whole state government is relying on donations to give out palliative and this is despite the fact that a whooping N6 billion was set aside for that purposes.”

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Muhammad Garba, who represented his boss, said the party purchased 5,840 50kg bags of rice, 1600 bags of millets, and 2,000 cartoons of Spheggati to give out to their supporters and other Kano residents.

He said 448 wards in 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State will benefit from the gesture which, he said, will be given to all APC supporters and social media influencers of the party.
