Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of a pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomoso.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

Olayiwola noted that the appointment followed the long-drawn processes specified under the law.

He quoted Makinde as congratulating the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears.

The commissioner also urged the people of Ogbomosho to work with the monarch to consolidate the successes of his forefathers.

The stool became vacant after the demise of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III on December 21, 2021, who joined his ancestors at the age of 95.

Oyewunmi ascended the throne on October 24, 1973, and ruled the ancient town for 48 years.
