REA chairmanship too small for you, Fayose’s brother tells ex-governor

Isaac Fayose has urged his elder brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, to decline his appointment as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), describing the position as below his political stature.

Speaking in a video posted on his Instagram page on Monday, Isaac reacted to the Presidency’s announcement appointing Ayo Fayose as REA board chairman alongside 25 others into the leadership of 10 federal agencies and commissions.

President Bola Tinubu had named Fayose to head the REA board, with Ahmadu Abubakar and Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three executive directors were retained.

Reacting to the appointment, Isaac argued that his brother deserved a higher national office.

“They gave my brother chairman of a parastatal, not minister, not ambassador,” he said, adding that the role did not reflect the former governor’s political standing.

He also compared the appointment with that of former presidential aide Reno Omokri, claiming the latter was made an ambassador while his brother was offered a less significant position.

Isaac further suggested that the appointment was influenced by the recent visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi to his residence.

“They gave my brother this appointment because Obi came to visit me. They said they must enter that family,” he claimed.

The younger Fayose recalled that his brother had repeatedly said he would not seek or accept public office after leaving the Ekiti State Government House, insisting he preferred to focus on his private business.

According to him, Ayo Fayose had built his wealth long before entering politics and did not need another government appointment.

Describing the REA chairmanship as a “Greek gift,” Isaac questioned why the appointment came years after his brother left office.

Addressing the former governor directly, he said, “You are too big for that. Give the appointment to your son.”

Isaac also used the opportunity to reaffirm his confidence in the opposition’s chances ahead of the 2027 general election, expressing optimism that the next election would be free and fair.
