Real chemistry: Asake, Wizkid’s bond from mentorship to music magic

Afrobeats stars Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, and Ahmed Ololade, aka Asake, are elevating their creative partnership with a joint EP titled Real, set for release this December.

The announcement, made during a recent Apple Music takeover, immediately ignited excitement across social media, with fans hailing it as the perfect “Detty December” soundtrack for the festive season.

To build anticipation, their official DJ shared a snippet of a track titled “Jogodo,” featuring thumping beats, Yoruba-infused lyrics, and the unmistakable blend of Asake’s energetic delivery and Wizkid’s signature smoothness.

With both artistes known for global Afrobeats hits, expectations for the project are sky-high.

Their collaboration is a natural evolution of a partnership that has been growing for years.

Their first major link-up on “MMS,” off Asake’s 2024 Lungu Boy album, showcased how seamlessly their styles fuse.

That synergy has continued on songs like “Bad Girl” and other joint efforts that have kept their fan bases intertwined.

Yet behind the music lies a deeper bond built on admiration and mentorship.

Asake has often described Wizkid as both an idol and a big brother figure, while Wizkid has consistently shown support—attending Asake’s concerts across the US, Germany, and at London’s O2 Arena, sometimes joining him on stage.

Speaking during the Apple Music interview, Asake reflected on their relationship:

“Me and Wizkid, our relationship is so real. We don’t share too much because this thing is bigger than the music itself.”

Their friendship extends far off stage. Wizkid reportedly spent a month touring Europe with Asake, further underscoring a connection rooted in trust, respect, and shared ambition.

It’s this bond that fuels the effortless chemistry fans hear in their collaborations—and what makes Real one of the most anticipated releases of the year.
