A member of the House of Representatives, Obi Aguocha, has called for clemency for Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), during proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Aguocha, who represents Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in Abia State, made the plea on Thursday following Kanu’s conviction on seven counts of terrorism.
Addressing Justice James Omotoso, Aguocha said, “My lord, I plead for mercy, I plead for clemency, and I appeal for peace and stability—not just in the South-East, but across Nigeria.
“Nigeria is bleeding, and we must find common solutions to our shared challenges.”
He added, “I am the direct representative of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
“That is why you see me here regularly, showing presence and solidarity with him.
“I respectfully ask the court to temper justice with mercy.”
Aguocha described himself as a friend of the court and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to address the judge, urging that Kanu be shown leniency in sentencing.
