The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson, has explained why the identities of suspected terrorism financiers in Nigeria remain undisclosed.
Benson said many alleged backers are under active investigation, with authorities tracking both local and international networks.
He stressed that publicly naming them now could compromise ongoing probes and national security.
“Work is in progress,” Benson said, adding that a “responsible government” will act when the time is right.
He confirmed that tracking, investigating, and building cases against suspected sponsors is ongoing, with support from international partners.
The lawmaker also noted that many suspected financiers have “lost the nerve” to fund terror groups, aware that they are being monitored.
Recent government statements reinforce that efforts to dismantle terror-funding networks are intensifying.
Former Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Christopher Musa previously said the process of naming financiers is ongoing but constrained by legal and international complexities.
Speaking on ARISE TV’s Prime Time, Benson emphasised that the current silence should not be seen as inaction; rather, it is a strategic measure to protect investigations and ensure that justice is properly served.
