The House of Representatives has withdrawn its proposed constitutional amendment on the creation of state police and is now considering a similar bill transmitted by President Bola Tinubu.
The development followed Tuesday’s plenary, where lawmakers gave the Executive-sponsored bill its first and second readings.
After the readings, the bill was referred to the House Committee on Constitutional Review for further legislative work.
The decision effectively puts the House’s earlier proposal on hold as lawmakers shift focus to the Executive-backed constitutional amendment.
The committee is expected to examine the bill’s provisions in detail before presenting its report to the House for further debate and consideration.
