Resident doctors commend Uba Sani over welfare, healthcare reforms

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has commended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for prioritising the welfare of resident doctors and improving healthcare delivery across the state.

The association said the governor had demonstrated commitment to improving the working conditions of resident doctors through better remuneration, infrastructure development, manpower expansion and professional training.

NARD made the commendation in a communiqué issued at the end of its July National Executive Council meeting held from July 26 to 31, 2026, at Gombe International Hotel, Gombe State.

The association also commended the governors of Osun, Kaduna, Oyo, Rivers and Plateau states for improving the welfare and working conditions of resident doctors.

According to NARD, the Kaduna State Government has implemented several measures aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare system.

It noted that the administration had renovated, equipped and upgraded all 255 primary healthcare centres in the state to Level 2 status.

The association said the government had also expanded access to maternal, newborn, child and adolescent healthcare services while strengthening routine immunisation and disease surveillance.

At the secondary healthcare level, NARD said the state government was revitalising general hospitals through infrastructure upgrades, procurement of modern medical equipment and improved diagnostic services.

The association further acknowledged the recruitment of healthcare professionals across various cadres, as well as efforts to strengthen workforce planning, continuous professional development and capacity building.

It said the state had sustained the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors and the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for eligible healthcare professionals.

NARD also commended the regular funding of the Medical Residency Training Fund, saying the initiative would support the development of specialist physicians and strengthen healthcare delivery in the state.

The association said continued investment in the welfare, training and working conditions of medical personnel remained essential to improving the quality and sustainability of healthcare services in Kaduna State.
