Terrorists, Residents

Residents have confirmed drone strikes in Tangaza and Tambuwal Local Government Areas of Sokoto State, sparking fear and uncertainty across the affected communities.

This followed the launching of airstrikes by the United States military against terrorists in the North-Western region of Nigeria.

One of the incidents was said to have occurred in Jabo District of Tambuwal LGA, a community residents described as largely peaceful before the attack.

Witnesses said panic broke out when an object resembling a drone was seen flying low before exploding on Thursday night.

Locals said the explosion left a deep crater, while fire was still burning at the site hours later.

They added that the object did not land on any homes and no casualties were recorded.

Some residents said metal fragments believed to be from the device were recovered and would be handed over to security agencies.

In Tangaza LGA, residents also confirmed strikes on areas suspected to be hideouts of the Lakurawa armed group.

A senior local government official, who asked not to be named, told newsmen that the attacks occurred late at night in Warriya and Alkasim villages.

The official said authorities were still assessing the impact of the strikes and had yet to determine whether civilians were affected.

Meanwhile, multiple sources said no similar airstrikes were recorded in eastern Sokoto State, despite the region’s long-standing struggle with banditry.

The Sokoto State Police Command had yet to speak on the incident as of the time of this report.
