A diesel tanker overturned on Monday at Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, Lagos, disrupting traffic along the Mile 2 corridor and causing a fuel spill on the bridge.
Videos circulating on social media showed residents scooping diesel from the fallen tanker despite the safety risks. The accident blocked movement on the route, forcing commuters to seek alternative passages.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that the tanker’s tank was damaged, causing diesel to spread across the bridge.
LASTMA said officers of the Nigerian Police Force from Area B, along with other safety agencies, were promptly notified and have responded to the scene. Traffic was diverted to the opposite side of the bridge to ensure the safety of motorists and commuters.
Motorists were advised to cooperate with traffic officials and strictly follow traffic directives as emergency and safety operations continue at the scene.
