A 2024 interview with Afrobeats star Davido, born David Adeleke, has resurfaced online, drawing renewed attention to the singer’s reflections on fame, success and life after the spotlight.
In the interview, Davido said his greatest fear is not knowing when to step away from music, explaining that he has seen many successful public figures struggle after their careers declined.
The singer said he would like to establish a therapy centre for celebrities and high-profile individuals dealing with the emotional challenges that come with losing fame and influence.
He noted that the transition from being widely celebrated to becoming less relevant can be difficult, adding that even some of the world’s greatest athletes continue to face criticism despite remarkable achievements.
Using football icon Cristiano Ronaldo as an example, Davido said the Portuguese star still faced ridicule despite his accomplishments in the sport.
The award-winning musician added that he constantly prays for the wisdom to recognise the right time to leave the music industry, saying he would not want years of hard work to be overshadowed by staying beyond his prime.
