The Rivers Elders Council on Tuesday expressed support for the “Renewed Hope Family,” an initiative by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, aimed at securing President Bola Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.
The endorsement was announced by Council Chairman, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, during Wike’s “thank you” visit to Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The initiative, also dubbed the “Rainbow Coalition,” brings together members of both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State to back Tinubu, transcending party lines.
The 86-year-old Alabraba described the Renewed Hope Family as the roadmap for 2027, noting the gains Rivers State recorded by supporting Tinubu’s presidential bid in 2023.
He described Wike as an “icon” of contemporary Nigerian politics, praising his pragmatic leadership and efforts to maintain ethnic harmony in the multi-ethnic state.
“The people of Rivers know where to go, and the Renewed Hope Agenda is the way forward in 2027,” Alabraba said.
Several local lawmakers and leaders also pledged their support. Rivers House of Assembly Majority Leader, Major Jack, commended Wike for his developmental projects and promised continued backing for Tinubu’s reelection. Mr. Lolo Opuende, representing the area in the State Assembly, emphasized that the community would rally behind Wike’s initiative, regardless of party affiliation.
Chairman of Akuku-Toru Local Government Council, Aboiya-a Bob-Fubara, praised Wike for his humility, inclusive governance, and commitment to grassroots development, pledging loyalty and cooperation to advance prosperity in the area.
In his remarks, Wike said the visit was to thank residents for their support since 2014 and to acknowledge the Rainbow Coalition’s role in mobilizing voters for Tinubu’s 2023 election.
“This is the only state where members of the two major political parties are working together to return Tinubu in 2027.
“This coalition is about renewed hope, not party politics,” Wike said.
