Ronaldo signs £175m contract with Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr

Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has signed £175million-a-year contract with Saudi Arabian club, Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo had been a free agent after leaving Manchester United by mutual consent in November following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

The 37-year-old forward’s deal is understood to be for seven years, with the former Real Madrid player set to play before taking up an ambassadorial role while his payment will increase over time.

Al-Nassr are one of the most successful clubs in Saudi Arabia, having being crowned winners of the country’s top flight nine times, with their most recent triumph coming in 2019.

Ronaldo had admitted rumours of a €350m (£310m) offer for two seasons from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club in the summer were true – an offer he had declined.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winnner had previously been linked with the likes of Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, and Napoli after stunning United officials by telling the club he wanted out in the summer transfer window.

Ronaldo, however, left United by mutual consent last month.

In the interview on TalkTV, Ronaldo said he felt “betrayed” by the club and has “no respect” for manager Erik ten Hag.

The Portugal captain also claimed members of the United hierarchy were trying to force him out of Old Trafford and doubted him when he said he could not attend pre-season because his daughter was ill in hospital.

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and the Champions League at United but left in 2009 after six years for Real Madrid, where he became the club’s greatest goalscorer, winning the Champions League four more times.

He spent three years at Juventus from 2018 before a sensational return to Manchester United in 2021.
