Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly left frustrated after Portugal’s football authorities changed an agreement over his involvement during the current international break.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Ronaldo had agreed to feature in two of Portugal’s four matches during the break and had no issue with the arrangement.
The situation reportedly changed after Portugal coach Jorge Jesus initially indicated that Ronaldo would play in the next two matches before later altering his plans.
The change allegedly left the Al-Nassr forward feeling used and disrespected by the Portuguese Football Federation.
Marca reported that Ronaldo had previously been asked not to retire from international football, with assurances that he would continue to receive full respect and support through 2027.
The report said the disagreement was therefore less about Ronaldo demanding to play every match and more about the change in the understanding reached over his participation.
Ronaldo remains a key figure for Portugal, having represented the country for more than two decades and won the European Championship in 2016 and the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025.
