Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc. has once again proven its excellence in ground handling by winning the British Airways Safety and Punctuality Bronze Awards for its Lagos and Abuja stations for the first quarter of 2025.
The awards, which recognize outstanding safety and on-time performance across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific regions, were presented by British Airways for SAHCO’s consistent achievement of a 96% Adjusted Departure Closure (ADC) rate throughout Q1 2025.
These achievements were disclosed in a press statement issued by SAHCO’s Head of Corporate and Communications, Adetola Vanessa Uansohia.
Hellen O’Connor, British Airways Regional General Manager for the Middle East, Africa, and Asia Pacific, praised SAHCO’s performance, noting that safety and punctuality are pillars of the aviation industry.
“We congratulate SAHCO in Lagos and Abuja for their outstanding contributions in achieving our Q1 punctuality goals.”
Responding to the honour, SAHCO’s Managing Director, Adenike Aboderin, thanked British Airways for the recognition and attributed the success to the dedication of the SAHCO team and the company’s investment in modern, eco-friendly equipment.
“This award reflects our commitment to delivering world-class ground handling services,” she said.
SAHCO also received additional recognition at the 2025 Nigeria Safety & Security (NSAS) Awards, organized by Safety & Security Watch Magazine to mark the ILO World Day for Safety and Health.
The company was presented with the Special Safety Merit Award, while its Assistant General Manager for Safety and Quality Assurance, Christy Oseghale, was honoured as a “Safety Champion” for her leadership and contributions to promoting safety culture in the aviation sector.
“At SAHCO, safety is non-negotiable,” said Oseghale.
“We are fully committed to protecting lives, equipment, and operations by upholding the highest standards.”
Dr. Chinyere Amaechi, Managing Editor of SSWatch Magazine, commended SAHCO for its strong compliance and inclusive approach to safety management, positioning the company as a benchmark for excellence in the industry.
SAHCO has maintained a consistent winning streak since the inception of the British Airways Awards. In 2024, the Lagos station earned accolades across all categories — Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum — while Abuja secured the Bronze award.
With these latest recognitions, SAHCO continues to reinforce its status as a trusted provider of safe, reliable, and efficient aviation ground handling services in Nigeria.
