Sanwo-Olu, Lai Mohammed, Gbenga Daniel to lead discussions on 2027 elections, insecurity at Freedom Online lecture

The challenges of insecurity, economic development and the conduct of the 2027 general election will take centre stage at the seventh annual lecture of Freedom Online scheduled to hold in Lagos on September 3, 2026.

The lecture, according to the organisers, will examine how Nigeria can address insecurity, which they described as a major threat to national stability and development.

The Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Freedom Online, Gabriel Akinadewo, in a statement issued on Monday, said the event would focus on the impact of insecurity on the country’s political, economic and social landscape.

Akinadewo said the discussions would also address concerns over the 2027 elections, including the credibility of the electoral process and the role of key stakeholders in ensuring a peaceful and acceptable outcome.

“What does the future hold for Nigeria after the 2027 general elections? How will the election be conducted in a way that will be acceptable to all? Will the outcome lay a solid foundation for the future of the country?” Akinadewo stated.

He noted that the actions of politicians, security agencies, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before, during and after the elections would play a significant role in determining the country’s future.

Akinadewo said election-related insecurity, including political thuggery, contributes to poverty, underdevelopment, and other social challenges affecting Nigerians.

Akinadewo added that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu would serve as the Special Guest Speaker at the lecture, while former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, would chair the occasion.

Former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel was named the Special Guest of Honour, while the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and Editor of Vanguard, Eze Anaba, would serve as the Chief Host.
