Abuja-based auto dealer and politician, Aliyu Mohammad, popularly known as “Sarkin Mota,” has emerged as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the House of Representatives seat representing Yola North, Yola South and Girei Federal Constituency in the 2027 general election.
Mohammad secured the party’s ticket at the NDC primary held on Friday, positioning himself for what is expected to be a closely fought contest in Adamawa State.
The businessman-turned-politician, who enjoys a growing support base in both Abuja and his constituency, described his emergence as the start of a new political wave in the area.
In a post shared on his X account, he thanked party members and supporters for their trust and backing.
“The people have spoken, and I am humbled by the confidence reposed in me,” he wrote, adding that the victory belonged to all those who supported the movement.
He pledged to deliver effective representation to the people of Yola North, Yola South and Girei, declaring that his emergence marked only the beginning of what he called the “Sarkified movement.”
His emergence is expected to intensify political activities in the constituency ahead of the 2027 elections, with analysts predicting a competitive race among major contenders.
If elected, Mohammad will unseat the incumbent lawmaker, Abubakar Zango, who is seeking re-election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress.
Meanwhile, his supporters have taken to social media to celebrate the development, describing him as a grassroots politician with increasing appeal among youths and traders in the constituency.
