Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, famously known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away after spending over two decades in a coma following a tragic car accident in 2005.
Born in April 1990, Prince Al Waleed was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud and nephew of billionaire businessman Prince Al Waleed bin Talal. At the age of 15, while studying as a military cadet in London, he was involved in a severe road accident that resulted in critical brain injuries and internal bleeding.
Despite intensive treatment from American and Spanish medical specialists, Prince Al Waleed never regained full consciousness.
For more than 20 years, he remained in a near-vegetative state, occasionally showing slight reflexive movements that gave his family hope.
His father, Prince Khaled, refused to end life support, firmly believing in divine healing.
The family frequently shared videos of the prince appearing to respond to Quran recitations, touching hearts across the Arab world.
News of his death at a specialised medical facility in Saudi Arabia prompted a wave of condolences and tributes.
The hashtag #SleepingPrince trended widely on social media, as many mourned a life marked by faith, perseverance, and deep parental devotion.
Prince Al Waleed’s hospital room had become a symbol of spiritual endurance, drawing visitors who came to pray and show support.
His long struggle became a powerful story of hope, family, and unwavering love.
