Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has dismissed claims of division among South-East governors, saying variations in policy priorities do not amount to disunity.
Speaking at a meeting of the South-East Traditional Rulers Council in Umuahia, Otti said each state operates within its own socio-economic context, making direct comparisons misleading.
He described such comparisons as “apples and oranges,” noting that governments naturally focus on their most pressing needs.
The governor stressed that cooperation among leaders in the region remains strong, even as states adopt different strategies in sectors like infrastructure, healthcare and education.
Otti also called for deeper collaboration between the South-East and South-South regions, describing inter-regional partnership as key to sustainable development.
He emphasised the importance of justice, urging leaders to prioritise fairness, equity and accountability in governance.
Highlighting his administration’s approach, Otti pointed to merit-based appointments, including naming a non-indigene as Head of Service, as proof of his commitment to inclusiveness.
He further urged traditional rulers to promote unity and fairness in their communities, describing their roles as critical and enduring beyond political tenures.
The meeting brought together stakeholders from across the region, with renewed calls for joint action to address insecurity, youth unemployment and other development challenges.
