Security operatives at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA 1), Lagos, have arrested several passengers allegedly found in possession of over $6.1 million while attempting to board an Aero Contractors flight.
According to sources who spoke to Premium Times on condition of anonymity, the arrested individuals—described as a group of young men—were suspected to be transporting the money on behalf of a politically exposed person.
Although full details of the incident remain unclear, the suspects were reportedly intercepted by officials of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit during routine checks at the domestic terminal.
They were subsequently handed over to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.
