Security operatives rescue 21 kidnapped victims in Kogi

Security operatives, comprising the officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and local vigilantes have rescued 21 persons kidnapped by gunmen along the Ajaokuta-Itobe Road in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by Onogwu Muhammed, the Chief Press Secretary to Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, on Saturday, December 30, 2023.

Muhammed noted that the victims, predominantly travellers, were rescued by security operatives on Thursday, following the governor’s directives to security agencies and local vigilantes to embark on immediate actions that would lead to the freedom of the captives.

He said the determined efforts of the combined security forces yielded results within 48 hours, leading to the release of the 21 captives, adding that the operation led to the apprehension of some of the kidnappers while those still at large are being trailed.

The CPS further quoted Governor Bello as commending the security operatives for their rapid and effective response.

The governor emphasised the paramount importance of maintaining peace and security within Kogi State, reiterating his administration’s commitment to leaving no stone unturned in its relentless pursuit of keeping the state as one of the safest states in the country.

Bello, who warned criminals against migrating to Kogi State for illicit activities, declared the state as a no-go area for all forms of criminalities, saying his administration would spare no effort in safeguarding the peace and security of the state.

“The unwavering commitment to the safety of citizens, coupled with a resolute stance against criminal elements, reflects the dedication of the administration to creating an environment where residents can live without fear,” he added.
