The Senate has confirmed the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the former sole administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, and 62 others as ambassadorial designates.
The nominees were confirmed by the Senate on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
This followed the presentation and consideration of the report on foreign affairs by the chairman of the committee, Senator Sani Bello (APC-Niger North).
The list consists of 34 career ambassadors and high commissioners and 30 non-career ambassadors and high commissioners, totalling 64 nominees.

Presenting the report, Bello said all the nominees were found worthy of their appointments without any petition against them.
Speaking after the confirmation, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who congratulated the ambassadorial designates, urged them to represent the country well as good ambassadors of Nigeria in their respective countries.
