Senate passes Electoral Act Amendment Bill

The Senate has passed the Electoral Act (amendment) Bill to regulate the conduct of the federal, state, and area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This followed the clause by clause consideration of the bill by the lawmakers in the Committee of the Whole on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.

The bill was the only item listed on the order paper after a valedictory session for the late Okey Ezea and was approved by the committee following consideration and adoption of its 155 clauses.

Some of the provisions were amended by the lawmakers, while the majority of the clauses were retained as originally proposed.
