SERAS opens entries for Africa’s first sustainability industry rankings

The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards has opened entries for what it describes as Africa’s first-ever sustainability industry rankings, targeting 100 organisations, 50 chief executives and 50 sustainability professionals across the continent.

The initiative, unveiled on Monday, October 12, will recognise organisations and individuals making measurable contributions to environmental protection, social impact, ethical governance and sustainable development.

The rankings comprise the Africa Top 100 Organisations in Sustainability, Africa Top 50 CEOs in Sustainability and Africa Top 50 Sustainability Professionals.

According to the organisers, entries are open to participants across African countries, including private companies, small and medium-sized enterprises, multinational corporations, government institutions, development organisations, non-governmental organisations and social enterprises.

Chief executives, managing directors and professionals working in sustainability, environmental, social and governance (ESG), corporate social responsibility (CSR) and impact-driven initiatives are also eligible.

Nominations can be submitted through self-nomination, organisational nomination or peer nomination, allowing individuals and institutions to nominate themselves or recommend deserving candidates.

The initiative forms part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of The SERAS Africa Sustainability Awards, which the organisers describe as a leading sustainability recognition platform on the continent.

The organisers listed the African Union, African Development Bank, United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Global Compact, Forbes Africa, African Sustainability Network and BusinessDay Media Group among the initiative’s institutional and media partners.

Speaking on the rankings, SERAS founder, Ken Egbas, said the initiative would provide a platform for identifying and benchmarking organisations and leaders delivering measurable sustainability outcomes.

“For the first time, Africa will have a credible and independent platform dedicated to identifying and ranking organizations, CEOs, and sustainability professionals creating measurable impact across the continent,” Egbas said.

He added that the rankings would encourage organisations and professionals to improve accountability, innovation and long-term value creation as sustainability becomes increasingly important to business performance and investment decisions.

The organisers said the rankings would also serve as a reference point for investors, policymakers, development institutions, consumers and other stakeholders seeking to identify sustainability leaders across Africa.

Entries opened on October 12 and will close on November 20, 2026, while the final rankings are scheduled for release on December 4.

Interested organisations and individuals can submit nominations through www.theseras.com.
