Vice President Kashim Shettima has traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent Nigeria at the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit taking place from July 27 to 29, 2025.
The summit, co-hosted by the UN, Ethiopia, and Italy, brings together world leaders to evaluate progress made since the 2021 edition and fast-track global efforts toward sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food systems.
It also aims to drive transformation in agricultural value chains, especially coffee.
According to his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima will participate in high-level meetings and side events, including a ministerial roundtable on public finance, trade, and responsible investment. He will also join field visits and networking sessions focused on food systems innovation and collaboration.
Nigeria’s delegation is expected to advance three key goals: positioning the country as a thought leader in African food system reform, strengthening international partnerships aligned with national priorities, and promoting a private-sector-led model for agricultural development across the continent.
Shettima is expected back in Nigeria following the conclusion of the summit.
