Six killed, nine injured as trailer loses control in Plateau

Six people have been confirmed dead and nine others injured in a road accident involving a trailer at the Shendam Road junction in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on January 4, when a trailer carrying about 400 bags of unprocessed rice from Yelwa-Shendam to Kano reportedly lost control and overturned.

Those identified among the dead include Samaila Dahiru from Katsina State; Sanusi Ladan Yelwa from Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State; Abubakar Sa’id from Dass Local Government Area, Bauchi State; and Zaradeen Makama from Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State. Police said two other victims also died but had not been identified at the time of the report.

Nine others sustained injuries.

Police said officers from Langtang North Division moved to the scene immediately, secured the area and worked with Federal Road Safety Corps personnel and members of the public to evacuate victims to the General Hospital in Langtang North.

The identified bodies were released to families for burial according to Islamic rites, while investigations into the accident are ongoing.
