It was gathered that Smith would hand over to Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (Rtd.), representing the judiciary at the commission.
Smith’s resignation is coming amid a dispute between the PSC and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on recruitment exercises.

The Force Headquarters later said it had not commenced the recruitment process for the 2022 batch of Constables, contrary to a publication by the PSC.
