Sokoto varsity warns against fake 2026/27 admission notice

Northwest University, Sokoto (NWUS), has warned prospective students, parents and guardians against a fake admission notice circulating on social media.

The university described the notice as fraudulent, saying it falsely claimed that the institution had released its first and second batch admission lists for the 2026/2027 academic session.

In a statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol, Abdallah El-Kurebe, the university said the publication also contained a telephone number, 07073682223, and identified an individual as “Dr. Mrs. Mary.”

According to the institution, the notice allegedly directed applicants to contact the individual to check their admission status, complete clearance, pay school fees and secure admission in subsequent batches.

NWUS stressed that it had no connection with the publication and had not authorised anyone to collect money or process admissions through personal telephone numbers.

“We have not asked prospective students to pay money to individuals through private arrangements to secure admission, nor have we authorised individuals to use personal telephone numbers to offer admission, conduct clearance, collect school fees or guarantee applicants places in our programmes,” the statement said.

The university expressed concern that fraudsters were exploiting the desperation of applicants and their families to gain admission.

It therefore urged prospective students to disregard the phone number and instructions contained in the fake notice and avoid transferring money or sharing personal and admission-related information with unauthorised persons.

The institution also warned applicants against individuals claiming to have access to admission lists or promising to secure admission, process clearance or guarantee placement in exchange for payment.

According to NWUS, all official information concerning admissions, including the release of admission lists, registration procedures and school fees, will be communicated through its authorised channels.

The university further called on parents and guardians to warn their children and wards about admission-related scams and verify any information directly with the institution before making payments or taking further steps.

NWUS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a transparent and credible admission process and protecting applicants and their families from fraudulent activities.
