Soludo alleges plot to manipulate results in Anambra governorship election

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has raised alarm over an alleged plan to rig the ongoing governorship election in the state.

Speaking to reporters, Soludo claimed that a particular political party—whose name he withheld—was plotting to “swap election results” during the collation process.

“The only thing we hear that is of concern, and we hope won’t happen, is that one party has written results to swap during the collation process,” Soludo said. “We also hear they’ve had meetings with INEC officials to delay uploading results in order to manipulate them.”

Despite his concerns, the governor expressed confidence in the electoral process and the vigilance of the people to ensure their votes count.

“We believe the system will sort it out. Our people are organised, united, and ready to monitor the process from polling units to wards, local governments, and finally the state level,” he added. “Once the system works, we have no doubt that we will win across the 21 local government areas.”

Soludo, who is seeking a second term in office, is contesting against 15 other candidates in the keenly contested poll.

The candidates include Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), Dr. George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP), and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), 2,802,790 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots across 5,718 polling units in 21 local government areas of the state.

The election, which spans the three senatorial districts of Anambra, features 16 governorship candidates and several female deputy governorship contenders.
