Son machetes father to death in Ogun

A 27-year-old man, Ibrahim Sikiru, has allegedly killed his father with a machete at the Onipanu area of Ogun State.

Ibrahim, who has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, was said to have killed his father, Mumuni Ibahim, after the latter questioned his son why he was still sleeping after coming home from work.

The son (suspect), it was gathered, got annoyed and brought out a cutlass to hack the victim, a night security guard, in five different places.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the suspect was arrested on March 30, 2022.

Oyeyemi explained that the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Onipanu Divisional Headquarters by one Abiodun Sunday.

The police spokesperson stated: “Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Onipanu Division, CSP Bamidele Job, quickly mobilized his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was arrested rushed the victim to the General Hospital for treatment.

“The suspect, who is strongly suspected to be a cultist, has no reasonable explanation for his action when interrogated.

“On March 31, the victim died while receiving treatment at the general hospital, and the family insisted on burying him according to the dictate of his religion.”

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
