Students, teacher escape death in Lagos road crash

Two students of Lagos State Model Junior College, Igbonla, Epe, and their teacher narrowly escaped death following a road accident in the Onipanu area of Lagos State.

The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., involved a collision between two speeding vehicles along the expressway, according to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

He explained that the crash involved a Honda Accord with one occupant and a Suzuki Alto carrying a teacher and two students. The impact forced one of the vehicles into the opposite lane, causing significant damage to both cars.

Despite the severity of the collision, no fatalities were recorded. However, the two students—identified as Animashaun Ridwan and Ogunbamowo Michael, both in JSS 2—complained of head and eye discomfort.

They were promptly treated by emergency responders, stabilised, given first aid, and later handed over to their parents.

The teacher involved, identified as Mr. Joseph, a Basic Technology instructor at the school, was also safely evacuated from the scene.

Emergency officials secured the area, evacuated all victims, and towed the damaged Suzuki Alto to prevent further accidents. Both vehicles have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for investigation.

LASEMA urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid speeding, and prioritise safety to prevent similar incidents on Lagos roads.
