A yet-to-be-ascertained number of students have been trapped after classrooms at the Government Secondary School, Namne, in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State collapsed.

It was gathered that many classrooms collapsed during the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

It was learnt that the incident, which occurred during a heavy downpour accompanied by a violent windstorm at about 6 p.m. on Wednesday, left many students and invigilators trapped beneath the wreckage for hours.

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, as residents of the community rushed to the scene to rescue those stuck under the collapsed classrooms.

A resident of the area, DanAzumi Lauris, disclosed that the injured students and teachers were rushed to the Primary Healthcare Centre around the school, where they are now receiving treatment.

DanAzumi added that many houses were also destroyed in the community following the heavy downpour.
