Sultan declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitr

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sa’ad Abubakar, has declared Wednesday, April 10, 2024, as the day of Eid-el-Fitr in the country.

This was made known in a statement issued by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sultanate Council, Prof. Sambo Junaidu, on Monday, April 8.

Junaidu noted that the declaration of Wednesday as the day of Eid-Fitr followed the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirming no sighting of the new moon.

He said the council accepted the report and declared Wednesday as the first day of Shawwal 1445AH.

He added: “His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.

‘Moon not sighted’: Saudi Arabia declares Wednesday Eid-el-Fitr

“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress, and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a happy Eid-el-Fitr.”

Saudi Arabia had earlier announced that the Eid-el-Fitr marking the end of the Ramadan fast would hold on Wednesday.

Saudi Arabia said the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH has not been sighted, indicating that the fasting will continue on Tuesday.

Shawwal, the 10th month of the Islamic calendar, follows Ramadan, marking the commencement of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The month symbolises a new beginning and spiritual rejuvenation after a month of purification, offering ample opportunities to sustain the positive habits cultivated during Ramadan.
