A suspended member of the Benue State House of Assembly, Berger Emberga, has emerged as the new Speaker.
Emberga, a member representing Makurdi North State Constituency, was among the four lawmakers recently handed a three-month suspension by the House.
He was elected as the new Speaker during an emergency sitting presided over by Deputy Speaker Lami Danladi on Sunday, August 24. 2025.
Benue Assembly Speaker resigns
The session followed the sudden resignation of Aondona Dajoh.
Dajoh, in a statement on Sunday, said his resignation was with immediate effect.
“This is done in faith and in the best interest of the state,” the lawmaker stated.
