Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, Alhaji Isa Sadiq Achida, has accused former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of leaving behind a trail of abandoned projects and financial mismanagement.
Addressing journalists on Monday, Achida alleged that Tambuwal deliberately failed to formally hand over to his successor, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, in 2023 in order to evade accountability for the state’s condition. He claimed the move was intended to frustrate the present administration.
The APC chairman, however, commended Governor Aliyu for what he described as prudent management of state resources and visible developmental strides.
“Since assuming office, salaries have been paid on or before the 21st of every month, the new minimum wage has been implemented, and major projects are ongoing—all without borrowing,” Achida stated.
He praised Aliyu’s focus on the welfare of citizens, contrasting it with what he called the looting of public resources under Tambuwal.
On Tambuwal’s political prospects, Achida argued that the former governor lacks an independent support base, relying heavily on godfathers such as Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko to attain power in the past. According to him, Tambuwal is now “politically retired” and unlikely to contest future governorship or senatorial elections.
When contacted, a former member of Tambuwal’s cabinet, who requested anonymity, said an official response would be issued in due course.
