A student of Taraba State Polytechnic, Iorhee Saanmoyol Paul, is currently receiving medical treatment after being electrocuted while hoisting a flag for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jalingo.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during preparations for the Taraba State International Investment Summit (TARAVEST), which was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Paul, a student from the Department of Epidemiology and Disease Control, School of Basic and Applied Sciences, was reportedly flying the PDP flag near the polytechnic gate when he came into contact with an electric current.
Speaking from his hospital bed at Gilead Hospital in Jalingo, Paul recounted the shocking turn of events.
“I was flying the party’s flag to welcome the Vice President.
“Suddenly, everything went blank, and I woke up in the hospital with these injuries,” he said.

Despite initial medical attention, Paul is calling on the Taraba State government for additional support, particularly for a transfer to a more specialised medical facility to aid his recovery.
The incident has drawn concern from both students and local residents, who are urging swift government intervention to ensure Paul receives the best possible care.
Confirming the incident, Iliya Kefas, Coordinator of the PDP Youths Movement and head of PDP Flag Mobilisation (PDPFF), said: “Yes, Paul was electrocuted while hoisting our flag.
“He was immediately taken to the hospital, and the government is currently covering his medical expenses.
“We are hopeful for his full recovery.”
