The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Region, has announced a month-long scheduled power outage to facilitate ongoing restringing works on the Benin–Ajaokuta 330kV Transmission Line.
In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said the exercise commenced on Friday, February 27, 2026, and will run daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
According to the company, the outage is necessary to enable contractors to continue work on the 330kV transmission line linked to the Ihovbor Power Plant Turn-In/Turn-Out Transmission Substation.
As a result, the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) will be unable to supply electricity to customers in UNIBEN, Oluku, Egba and Ihovbor for up to 10 hours daily during the project period.
TCN explained that power supply will be restored each day after 6:00 p.m., allowing BEDC to off-take electricity from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. the following day.
The company noted that the temporary disruption is required because the transmission line crosses major highways along the Benin–Ajaokuta corridor. It added that relevant road safety agencies have been notified and will be on standby to ensure public safety throughout the construction period.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience the outage may cause and assured customers that full bulk power supply will resume once the project is completed.
