Transmission towers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has begun reconstruction works on three collapsed towers along the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line, which went down earlier in May due to strong winds.

To expedite the restoration process, TCN has deployed three different contractors, assigning each specific tower to rebuild. This strategic approach is aimed at minimizing the downtime on the affected transmission line.

In the interim, TCN has taken steps to mitigate the impact of the disruption on power supply to Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) and its customers.

Sokoto and Birnin Kebbi are currently receiving between 6 MW and 7 MW of electricity through an alternative route—the 132kV Mando-Zaria-Funtua-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto-Birnin Kebbi line.

The company expressed appreciation to affected communities for their patience and cooperation. It assured the public that its contractors and supervising engineers are working diligently to complete the reconstruction and restore full service as soon as possible.

“We regret the inconvenience caused by the incident and remain committed to restoring stable power supply,” TCN stated.
