The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has cleared illegal structures encroaching on its transmission line Right of Way (RoW) in parts of Enugu State, as part of efforts to protect critical power infrastructure and ensure public safety.
The demolition targeted fences and other constructions dangerously close to Tower 31 of the Ugwuaji–Makurdi 330kV Double Circuit Line at Akpuoga Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, as well as structures along the corridor of a 132kV transmission line.
These obstructions posed serious safety risks and hindered maintenance access.
Before the exercise, TCN had conducted multiple sensitisation campaigns, warning residents and traders against building or carrying out activities within transmission corridors.
In a statement, Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs, explained that the demolition was unavoidable to prevent accidents, safeguard lives and property, and allow unhindered access for linesmen during routine inspections and emergency repairs.
TCN also reminded prospective developers that the cleared Right of Way (RoW) for transmission lines is 50 metres for 330kV lines (25 metres on each side) and 30 metres for 132kV lines (15 metres on each side).
