The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it recorded 131 cases of vandalism across its transmission network between January and November 2025.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Suleiman Abdulaziz, disclosed this in his end-of-year message on Sunday, describing vandalism as a major threat to Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
“From January to November 2025 alone, the company recorded 131 vandalism incidents across its network,” Abdulaziz said.
He noted that vandalism has continued to pose serious challenges to the operations of TCN, recalling that the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, revealed in January 2025 that more than ₦9 billion was spent in 2024 to repair vandalised power facilities in northern Nigeria.
Abdulaziz said TCN is working closely with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), security agencies and community vigilante groups to address the problem.
He added that the company will also intensify public sensitisation and community engagement to protect critical infrastructure.
“We will continue to strengthen awareness campaigns and community collaboration to curb this trend and safeguard our assets,” he said.
Despite the challenges, the TCN boss highlighted key achievements recorded in 2025. He said that on March 4, 2025, TCN successfully transmitted an all-time peak generation of 5,801.84 megawatts, with a maximum daily energy delivery of 128,370.75 megawatt-hours, the highest in Nigeria’s history.
He also disclosed that between January and November 2025, TCN commissioned 82 new power transformers, adding over 8,500 MVA to the national grid, significantly improving capacity and reliability.
According to Abdulaziz, TCN also made progress on several major projects funded by development partners, with investments valued at more than $1.16 billion, underscoring the company’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s power transmission network.
