A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Katsina State after allegedly attempting to rob a resident while brandishing a toy pistol.
The suspect was apprehended at Kofar Sauri, Katsina, after a resident alerted the police that he was being chased by a young man who pointed what appeared to be a firearm at him.
According to the police, the incident was reported at about 7pm on August 22, prompting officers and members of a local vigilante group to move in.
The suspect was arrested around 8pm, while a search reportedly led to the recovery of a black toy pistol allegedly used in the attempted robbery.
Police spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, said the suspect was also being investigated for alleged impersonation.
He added that the suspect remained in custody as detectives continued investigating the incident and determining whether he had been involved in other offences.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, commended the vigilante members and residents for their role in the arrest.
He urged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly, stressing that cooperation between residents and security agencies was essential to preventing robbery and other crimes.
