Teenager found dead at UI swimming pool

The Oyo State Police Command has begun an investigation into the cause of death of a teenage boy found in the University of Ibadan (UI) swimming pool.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, made this known in a statement issued on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

Olayinka said information gathered from the UI Chief Security Officer revealed that the body of the victim, aged between 14 years and 15 years, was sighted on the surface of the swimming pool in the early hours of Thursday, March 26.

Olayinka said police detectives immediately visited the scene while preliminary investigation revealed blood oozing from the mouth and nose, with slight bruises on the nose.

He noted that items suspected to belong to the deceased, including a pair of shoes and a shirt, were found close to the pool, adding that blood stains were also observed within the pavillion area.

The police spokesman disclosed that the body was later evacuated to the General Hospital, Adeoyo, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead on arrival and subsequently deposited at the mortuary.

Olayinka said the case is being treated as a suspected murder, adding that the command has commenced a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as investigations were ongoing.
