The Benue State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in connection with alleged arson and theft in Turan Kindred, Torgov, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources said the arrests followed reports that unidentified persons set fire to several houses and stole farm produce belonging to residents of the community.
According to the command, three residents—Zaki Joseph Tyodaa, Zaki Myangega Iwaa and Torpawa Kwan—reported that their homes were attacked at about 11:00 p.m. on January 29. The assailants allegedly set the houses ablaze and made away with tubers of yam.
The victims told police they were able to identify some of the suspected attackers.
Following the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer in Katsina-Ala deployed a patrol team to the area to assess the damage and begin preliminary investigations. Photographs of the burnt buildings were taken as part of the inquiry.
Police subsequently arrested 10 suspects from the community in connection with the incident. The suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured that more details would be made available as the case progresses.
