Suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters have abducted the newly elected Vice Chairman of Biu Local Government Area in Borno State, Alhaji Saidu, along with two councillors and several other passengers.
Sources revealed that the abduction took place on Wednesday evening along the notorious Kamuya village–Buni Yadi road as the victims were travelling to Maiduguri following the local government elections held on Saturday.
According to the sources, the abducted councillors represent Zarawuyaku and Miringa wards of Biu Local Government Area.
“Yes, our newly elected vice chairman, Alhaji Saidu, and two councillors elected in last Saturday’s local government polls were abducted by suspected ISWAP terrorists between Kamuya village and the Buni Yadi road,” a source confirmed.
The attackers were also said to have intercepted a Hisbah vehicle coming from Potiskum in Yobe State, as well as a Jamatul Nasrul Islam (Yan Agaji) vehicle travelling from Potiskum to Biu, abducting several passengers.
“They were taken along with other unidentified passengers in a Jamatul Nasrul Islam vehicle en route from Potiskum to Biu.
“One of the councillors abducted is also a former vice chairman of Biu Local Government,” the source added.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident as efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of the abducted victims continue.
