Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly attacked a military checkpoint at Zuma Rock close to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, leaving unspecified number of soldiers dead.

Security sources disclosed that the attack occurred at about 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Zuma Rock, located along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway, is a borderline between terror-stricken Niger State and Abuja

The latest attack is coming a few days after the terrorists reportedly killed no fewer than eight soldiers in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

The terrorists reportedly ambushed the military checkpoint with heavy firepower, gunning down the soldiers on duty and sporadically shooting for about 30 minutes.

Sources said the soldiers mobilised from the nearby Zuma Barrack arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after the terrorists had left.

However, the number of casualties in the attack has yet to be ascertained.

Earlier on Thursday, the Defence Headquarters said the troops have killed 30 terrorists who attacked and killed soldiers in Bwari.

On Sunday, terrorists ambushed the troops near the Nigerian Law School in Bwari, hours after they threatened to abduct President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.

The slain officers were drawn from the 7 Guards Brigade, an elite brigade of the Nigerian Army responsible for protecting the President of Nigeria and securing the nation’s capital.
